Who We Are

We exist to build a faith community called by God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to form disciples of Jesus Christ through worshipping God, living a holy and sanctified life as we serve others.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Bible

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible written word of God, and contains one harmonious and sufficiently complete system of doctrine. we believe in the full Inspiration of the Word of God.

One God

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, God the Father,  the Almighty, the Author and Creator of all things. God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Rapture

We believe in the blessed hope, which is the rapture of the Church of God, which is in Christ at His return.

Repentance

We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and fait in the precious blood of Jesus Christ. We believer that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.

Our STory

After much prayer and consecration, the Lord used Elder Tony and Sister Celestine Torain to organize The Good Shepherd Church of God in Christ on January 1, 1989.  They had been seeking the Lord about next steps in ministry and in the fall of 1988, He made it clear that they were to plant a church ministry under the umbrella of The Church of God in Christ.  It was clear that they were to have as their emphasis the teaching of the word, the personal development of men and women, outreach into the community and vibrant worship. So, on a cold winter day while it snowed outside, The Good Shepherd Church of God in Christ was born at the Ramada Inn in Woodlawn, Maryland.  The conference room in which the church was born was filled with seekers and well wishers on that first day. That first gathering yielded a ministry of seven people who became The Good Shepherd Church of God in Christ.

The church remained in the Ramada Inn for its first year but through the grace of God, moved to the Econo-lodge in Catonsville, Maryland in its second year.  The church grew in membership and finances in this location as it was able to maintain adequate worship space while paying very little rent.

In 1994 the Church moved into the religious property at 1721 Sexton Street, Baltimore, Maryland having purchased the old Sexton United Methodist Church building.  Immediately the church set about renovating the property and taking care of deferred maintenance. Here the church grew and was blessed to raise many children. One of the ministries of the church was a monthly outreach to the community when the church opened its doors on the fourth Saturday in the month and fed the community.

In 2014 the church moved to its present location, 8301 Liberty Road, Windsor Mill, Maryland.  Just outside the Baltimore City line, on one of the busiest thoroughfares in Baltimore County, the church has thrived in this location. It has continued to serve families with children, seniors who are looking for a place to call home and believers who are looking for a place to work out their salvation.
